John Legend - “Tonight (Best You Ever Had)” feat. Ludacris

Temperature is rising high in that super steamy new video released by Soul/R&B singer John Legend earlier today. The track is off of the soundtrack for the upcoming romantic comedy “Think Like A Man”.

Just found out that the movie actually stars two of my favorite cuties out there, Jerry Ferrara (of Entourage fame) and Michael Ealy aka gorgeousness epitomized. In theatres in the US starting April 20, 2012.

Mos Def x JS aka The Best - “Winter 2 Summer”

Cool rework of a Raphael Saadiq/Teedra Moses collaboration, this track features Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) rapping over that sweet, funkilicious beat from the song “I Want You Back” (off of the independently released “Ray Ray” album).

The track is part of a free EP dropped by JS aka The Best on his bandcamp page last December.

Electric Guest “This Head I Hold”

Another joint I’ve come to know and adore thanks to popular French talk show Le Grand Journal, which has picked the following tune as the soundtrack to their Coming Next section this week.

The sound reminded me of Foster The People meets Gnarls Barkley, so it was no surprise to learn this L.A. based indie band who goes by the name of Electric Guest actually opened for the former and that half of the latter, Danger Mouse, serves as producer for their debut album, “Mondo” (to be released April 24, 2012) .

I just can’t get enough of this one !

That one-of-a-kind voice, unfiltered and unadorned by autotune and other modern gimmicks. RESPECT.

You will be missed, Whitney! :’(

R.I.P to Whitney Houston. Many may not know that, Whitney was a fashion model before becoming a singer. She started modeling in her teens in the early 80’s. She appeared in Seventeen and became one of the first women of color to grace the cover of the magazine. She was also featured in other magazine such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Young Miss, and appeared in a Canada Dry soft drink TV commercial.

It All Belongs To Me

Brandy & Monica

Brandy & Monica - “It All Belongs To Me”

I’ve seen very mixed reviews both on music blogs and on Twitter but I personally think the song is strong, with a massive mainstream Pop appeal.

I like the fact that it is risky enough to have embraced a very 90’s R&B kind of vibe, and is nowhere near the Urban Dance Pop crap of the moment. It is also a midtempo joint, which can be quite unsettling if you still have “The Boy Is Mine” in mind. To be clear, this ain’t a follow-up, this is a new collaboration between two really gifted singers we grew up listening to, and that was all I was expecting from them.

edtrufant:

  • Brandy and Monica rejoin forces nearly 14 years after their 1998 hit single, “The Boy Is Mine” with their new track, “It All Belongs To Me” produced by Rico Love.
  • The track is slated to appear on Monica’s new album, New Life, slated to hit stores this April, as well as on Brandy’s album, supposedly due out in May.

Art Of Fresh feat. Melanie Durrant “Good Shoes”

Stumbled accross this video of Canadian Hip Hop duo Art Of Fresh while I was browsing through the FB page of the exquisite German website Bklyn.de

Art Of Fresh is another project formed by artist/producer Slakah the Beat Child, this time joining forces with Toronto MC Duane Gibson aka Defy the Odds aka D.O. The track can be found on Art Of Fresh’s latest album, When The Night Comes In, which can currently be downloaded for free on the duo’s Bandcamp page.

The video is funkilicious as hell, and features the lovely indie Soul/R&B siren known as Melanie Durrant.
